Her presentation over breakfast left a lasting impression. She showed such humility as she said “I’m just a country girl, I’m nothing special”. I so wanted to jump up and shout that YOU are so much more than ‘just’, she is amazing and one special human.
I came across Kelly Foran, founder of the Friendly Faces, Helping Hands Foundation when she gave a talk at a local women’s breakfast last month.
The foundation is borne from her own tragic journey and she wants to make that journey easier for others. They have helped over 70 thousand (70,000) country folk since the foundation started in 2011. Many of us would know how daunting travelling to a big city for treatment can be, the costs, the loneliness, the anxiety that does not help people recover from their illnesses. Kelly is making that road a little easier for so many.
Having helped my parents through some illnesses over the last few years, including travel to Sydney for some operations I can only imagine the stress and anxiety that some people feel when their Medical Practitioners tells them they need to go a city for treatment. It can be debilitating and costly.
To help others – whether that is having someone pick them up from the train station and take them to lodgings, visit them in hospital, help with costs of travelling and long stays in the city – Kelly needs support to keep her foundation going.
It is very fitting organisation for Day 5 of my Advent Calendar – Making a Difference.
If you want to make a difference in someone’s life consider a donation to Friendly Faces, Helping Hands. You or your loved ones may need their help in time to come.
And thank you to Kelly – Your powerful words of conviction will ring in my ears for a long time to come
