Can you imagine…you have finally found the courage to put yourself ‘out there’ and look for a job. Its been years since you have had any sort of job – life has been crazy with looking after parents, children, a marriage break down and just a whole lot of dumb, stupid bad luck.
You get a phone call – one that you never thought you would.
“Can you come in for an interview next week?”
And then you look in your wardrobe.
And then the self-doubt sets in.
And you question whether you can do this. What will they see when you walk in the door?
What have I got to wear that will give me the confidence to attend, let alone speak when I get there?
I don’t think I’ll go.
Yes, you said you would.
But once they see me, they won’t want me.
Well they must have seen something in you, they have asked you for an interview
Maybe what all those others have said are right. Maybe I am too dumb
No, you have got this far….
Breathe.
Imagine yes, imagine the future.
I can’t.
I can, I will, I am.
And she did, with the help of Dress for Success.
Today’s Advent Calendar for Making a Difference is an organisation that is close my heart. I have been a fan of their work for a while now. Dress for Success is a charity that improves the employability of women in need by providing, free of charge, professional clothing, a network of support and the career development tools to help women achieve self-sufficiency. Over 3000 women have been helped and supported in 2018, from the Sydney office alone.
They not only provide clothing for a job interview, they will provide clothing to get the woman started in the job. And by clothing – it’s the lot…clothes, bra, shoes, bag, jewellery – everything to dress the client for the success they deserve. They also have some wonderful staff who will coach to help the client nail that interview. And they want to help rural women.
This year, through their outreach pack and send program they have started to help women in rural and remote areas and want to do more.
As their Facebook says,
“This Christmas, instead of wasting money on useless and cheap Kris Kringle gifts, we encourage you to donate or give a donation voucher to our Christmas Giving Appeal to give a practical, meaningful and life changing gift.
Your meaningful gift will have a profound impact on a woman in distress”
You WILL make a difference. x
